Getting Ready for Quilt Market

  

  

     

Simplicity Group Challenge

Next Friday I will be headed south to Houston for the International Quilt Market.  It  will be fun walking the show and taking in all the eye candy!  I will be in the C & T booth (#1344) at noon on Saturday  and in the Fairfield booth (#1164) on Monday at 1:00 p.m. 

I designed several pieces of artwork for the show.  Simplicity Creative Group invited a group of designers to take part in a challenge.  We were asked to create quilts using their new Rotary Cutting and Bias Tape Machines.  The quilts  will be on display in their booth (#2128).  I can't wait to see what the other designers created.  Above is a portion of the quilt I designed.  It incorporates techniques from my book.  I especially loved using the Rotary Cutting Machine to make various size strips to use as my base for the quilt. 

C & Twill be debuting a very cool new program called the Liquitex Surface Design Center (SDC).  I created a couple of quilts using the paint to display in their booth. 

I was asked by Fairfield to create 2 quilt blocks for a quilt they will have on display.  All the  blocks  will also be a BOM (block of the month) on their site as well.  They asked designers to create a "cool" and "warm" colorway block using their favorite medium.  The blocks were then incorporated into a quilt.  My blocks were created using my embossed batting technique. 

My friend Lesley Riley will have a booth (#1351) exhibiting her TAP (Transfer Artist Paper).  I am bringing a fabric art canvas that I made for her.  If you have not yet tried this be sure and check it out.  Very cool stuff!

Crafts N Things-Halloween

In the current issue of Crafts n Things magazine (page 20) I have this cute and easy witch project which I created using Dow Styrofoam Brand Foam products and Creative Paperclay.  I started my creative life adventure as a doll maker.  Creating and selling my Santas, Bunnies, and Halloween dolls at art and craft shows.   I still love making dolls, and wish I could clone myself and have time to make everything!

Mixed Media Canvas/Joggles

 

 

The Fall class schedule is now posted at Joggles.  I will be teaching a five week on-line class there starting October 20, 2009.   Joggles is a great source for all kinds of mixed media products.   My class will incorporate techniques from my book Fabric Art Collage.   I hope you will join me to learn some cool new mixed media techniques!

Hearts for Anna Fundraiser

        

Starting today, there is a very special event taking place.  The Artful Homewebsite is sponsoring a fund raiser for Anna Millea. 

Anna Millea, a longtime Guild and Artful Home artist, is fighting breast cancer - again. The disease has returned aggressively and is now in her bones, requiring an extreme sixteen rounds of chemotherapy. She has no insurance, having been deemed un-insurable due to her "pre-existing condition." I encourage everyone to stop by and view (and buy!) all of the beautiful art pieces being offered.  Any one of us could be in Anna's place.  Please help this wonderful artist!  This is my piece I created for Anna.

Embossed Batting

  

I was invited by Fairfield Processing Corp. to be their guest designer for August.  In my book Fabric Art Collage 40 + Mixed Media Techniques, I teach a technique that shows how to emboss their Nature-fil Bamboo Batting.  This is a photo of the project.  It is a very simple technique that always yields cool results.  I hope you will visit their site and make the project!  After learning the technique, send me a jpeg of your work, and I will post it here.  I love seeing what people are making with the techniques!
